Post: (on Never Look Away)
! – To me, the scariest part of the movie was the part where all the girls are lined up outside to watch Hitler pass and hand him flowers. The fervor of the brainwashed crowd was terrifying and shows how people and governments like that rise to power and keep it. It reminded me of people back home talking about Trump.
Reflection:
I appreciate that this unit was almost entirely film. I’ve just been getting into film analysis recently, and it was fun to get some more practice! Also, this was a really neat example of a lot of films that had a really strong but hidden connection between them. I barely knew anything previously about German history, certainly not anything about the RAF or much about Germany’s political history. Getting the information from the unit through films was difficult sometimes, but it was the kind of difficult that made me think and pick apart the complexities in the films. I will definitely be more aware now how bodies are political weapons, and I still wonder where the line is between taking action against injustice and being another injustice yourself.
